Hi! Everyone, hope you all are fine.
In this post I will tell you how Delhi Police is taking help from Facebook page to control the traffic. As you all may know Delhi have lots of rule breaker drivers. Who ignores the red light, road crossing people, bicycles or bus lanes to make their ways.
In an official Facebook page of Delhi Traffic Police (DTP), we general public have an opportunity to register complain against rule breaking drivers without harassing our self, we just have to take the photo of the vehicle with their vehicle No. Plate and post it on DTP official page with the details (like: explanation of incidence with the photo proof, time of the incidence, where the incident held, and vehicle no. plate with the photo proof).
As 2010 Commonwealth Game (CWG) will start in the month of October, this Facebook page will help DTP a lot to manage and control Delhi traffic. Only 5,000 traffic police to manage more then 12 million people traffic… But now we general public holds hand in hand with DTP to manage traffics so that during 2010 CWG traffic should not be concerned as a huge problem. They have made 19k+ follower in Facebook page and they also have a twitter profile where they have 1,300+ followers.
What do you think, how much will it help???
Update: Please don't post the details regarding the Delhi Traffic in comment box, Please kindly post it in DTP's Facebook page...

almost same as www.taganidiot.com
Very good step and it is better if all cosmopolitan cities follow the same.

well it maybe a good idea but why in the first place you have too many offenders?aren't the summoned high enough? In the country I am staying eventhough we parked wrongly we get summoned by either the enforcement officer or police officer and if you do not clear your summoned it is on line so you could not renew the roadtax and also your driving license....isn't it trouble some....so it is all about the system I guess.and the country I am staying in average everyone owns a car....so the trafffic is worst every day.
you may installed cctv and more traffic lights well it is only a suggestion ;-)
An innovation!

On the Outer ring road at Red light Road turning and coming from PVR Vikas Puri You may see illigal parking on the bottlenecked road and People often comming from wrong side particularly Rickshaw Pullers cause slow movement of Trafic flow towards Janakpuri and Trafic cops may be seen busy in stooping commercial vehicle least bothering for the traffic is a common seen.
Requested to ensure responsibility in this regard.
At the Sayyed Village (West Delhi) Red light turning towards GH-5&7 , GH-6, GH-6(New), the wide road has been narrowed due to illegal parkings of commercial vehicles(Truks, Tankers), broken down cars, and street venders, is a threat to the lives of the (3000 families)using the road, users feel that there exist no one who may take action against these offenders as the people concerned are either muscle-mans or big-house owners.
Hats of to Delhi traffic police, doing nice job.
First i want to know that you will disclose the name if we give any information to you?????
I can inform you who brake the law but i don't want discole me name.
Thank you Delhi T. Police

You have to post it in DTP Facebook page, so their it will show your Facebook profile name and all.
actually the fact is our DTP is too corrupted many of the DP officials jump the red light n if they r held they just say WE ARE FROM STAFF is this a right technique to deal with and will our DTP can solve this problem.....
my license was broke by a home guard (TEJ PAL )who was on check post after a long argument he told me to register A COMPLAINT AGAINST HIM IN KATUJA THANA NEAR SECTOR 16 WHERE I WAS SCOLDED N WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD MAKE A NEW ONE IS THIS A WAY TO HELP THE CITIZENS TEL ME AND DEAR SIR, STILL TAHT LICENSE IS IN BROKEN CONDITION I M FROM MIDDLE CLASS FAMILY CANN'T AFFORT IT TO REMAKE A NEW ONE ALREADY INSPECTOR TOOK 1000 RS TO PASS ME FOR MAKING MY LICENSE BUT WHILE CHECKING BREAKING THE LICENSE IS IT A RIGHT TECHNIQUE TO DEAL WITH....
This is a band-aid solution in the best case. In the worst case, it is come-to-life of the worst nightmare briefed in Orwell's "1984". People turning against each other for fear of penalty. If you really want to curb this problem, have an independent auditor be posted at each DMV licensing office, get rid of the manual traffic police and antiquated hand signalling and dont just have the laws but enforce them with the help of technology (cameras at traffic light etc.,). Get a sense of pride when they wear the uniform. Pay the police well so they are not tempted for bribes and would be enforcing the laws well. This getting people to publish photos on facebook is childish (as you can see from the fan comments) and willing to live with the inadequacies of the system.
The drivers break the rules , they are challanned.
Bengalaroo has come out with an innovative way to cut challans..using blackberrys ,cut out an electronic recpt. saves time.pretty good.
was pretty impressed untill by bro ankush showed me the
The flip side....the challan cutter and the driver enter into an agreement ,challan cutter doesnt cut 1000 R.S challan instead charges R.S 5oo which goes inside his personal pocket.
We in Delhi can certainly modify this to our advantage and follow the good practises done elsewhere .
The solution...give the challan cutters incentives, for cutting challans...for example....5 challans cut in a day is meets expectation and they would get a certain incentive...10 per day is outstanding and the incentive increases.
This will satisfy the challan cutter...and motivate him to honestly do his work...and this will make rash drivers follow the rules.
But this should be accompanied with an appropriate punishment if the challan cutter misuses his powers and falsely cuts challans.
TIMSY.
KEEP IT UP. ANYTHING THAT WORKKS IN ANY ENVIROMENT THAT PRODUCES POSITIVE RESULT, I'M BEHIND IT. aworinde oyeshiji from Nigeria on Facebook.

Wish something like this could be done in Hyderabad.. traffic sense is almost non existent here.
Why not Tractors be banned on roads except when they carry agriculture produce to Mandis and take necessary items from the city for their own consumption. I.e. they should be barred for being used for commercial purposes like carrying building material, water. They are traffic hazard.
Commercial vehicles plying on roads of Delhi in non-raod worthy conditions can be identified by everybody. Still we are surpised that DTP takes no action. We can see RTV's and Blue line buses on the road without Window panes, metallic parts hanging like bumpers.
Why not RTO's tack actions in removing such vehicles from the road.
MCD has also decided to start a page "MCD" to get citizens to monitor garbage collection sites on facebook. This is indeed a gutsy move by their Adnl Commissioner, Mr Anshu Prakash. DTP gets complaints of citizens from other citizens. MCD is now asking citizens to complain about MCD and its own concessionaires! Kudos to Mr Anshu Prakash and Mr Mehra, the commissioner of MCD. Of course time will tell how successful it will be, but if citizens report and MCD acts (why would they start this page if they did not want to act?) - it will work!
